Peter Cole OAMPeter Cole OAM: Chairman firstname.lastname@example.org
Peter Cole founded Spirit of Sharing in the year 2000 at the age of 17. Having seen the state of sports programs in rural Fiji, Peter started small, collecting second hand sporting equipment and taking it to Fiji each year to distribute to needy schools and groups. Peter's vision has grown significantly - these days, Spirit of Sharing sends container loads of sporting equipment to Fiji, and is involved in building school dormitories, installing water tanks, providing scholarships for students and collecting second hand medical equipment from Australian hospitals, to help improve the facilities in hospitals across the Asia Pacific.
Peter Cole co-founded SOS in 2000 with this vision: 'Enhance the lives of youth in the Asia Pacific Region through Sport and Fitness'. Working closely with thousands of Australian school leavers, Peter aims to change the culture of school leavers trips forever. His vision is that by 2020, all Australian school leavers will include an element of Social Justice in whatever celebrations they wish to embark on. Fiji provides an extraordinary opportunity to get a real feel and sense of how lucky we are in Australia, and how much we can contribute, forever changing the lives of young people there.
Peter has a strong relationship of trust with the Fijian Government, built up by working closely with officials for the past 14 years.
In 2007 Peter was nominated for ‘Young Australian of the Year’ for his tireless work in the Asia Pacific Region.
In 2010 Peter was awarded one of Australia's highest honours, the Order of Australia Medal, for his services to the International community.
Peter is also a member of the Rotary Club of Belgrave in Melbourne's South East and has been recognised with 8 Paul Harris Fellow awards.
Peter sums up his work by a simple motto - 'Inspire Change'.
