I’m nominating Lively Minds we’re a small intoenatirnal development charity who are make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of children and their families living in poverty. Lively Minds improves the quality of life for deprived children and their families in rural Ghana and Uganda through our low-cost education, health and community empowerment programmes. We set up Play Centres for children aged 3-6 and Reading Schemes for all in rural deprived villages. We train volunteers from the communities to run and sustain the Play Centres and Reading schemes themselves so that once set up they are sustainable and communities are empowered to continue to run them without our support. Since we started in 2008 we’ve been able to set up 36 Play Centres and 7 Reading Schemes. During 2011 alone this changed the lives of over 5,570 children and 1,015 volunteers. During 2012 we’re hoping to scale up operations to reach more remote communities and aim to set up in 25 more villages. a3250 would make a huge difference and could buy locally sourced games for the Play Centres in 5 new communities. That would benefit over 600 children per year!
